Apple headphones with remote and mic question?

I've had these headphones for about a month and I've never had a problem until today....i can still listen to music from my ipod but it doesn't let me change the song, volume, etc......any ideas how to fix it

The Apple headphones with mic are very poor quality, and apair will honestly only last about 3 mos. I know because I go through a pair myself about that long! If you have an iPhone, an it's less thanone year old, you actually can simply return the headphones to the Apple storefor a free replacement pair because they are included under the phone's warranty. Otherwise, go out and buy a new pair (Target also sells them). Then, replace the newly purchased good pair with the old defective pair in the box and get a refund claiming the pair you "just bought" is defective. It's kind of cheating, but at $30 a pair for flimsy product, who is really being cheated?
