I have the new 8GB which doesn't come with the mic but I might get those earbuds for mine. You can use them to give voice commands to the player. It will find and play whatever you tell it. You can also use them for VoIP on AIM, Skype and others. I'm in the US but I have some old friends in Europe, so we talk over the internet all the time. My cell phone plan isn't great for international calling and I don't even have a landline anymore, so VoIP is great.

I also read e-books on my Touch. If you like to read, get the Kindle and Stanza apps. Lots of free and paid e-books available from both of them and others.

There are also games to suit just about anyone's taste, free and paid.

If you're relatively new to iTunes and iPods, I highly recommend that you download and read your user guide. And, whether you download to the device or to the computer, be sure to back up your files, especially if you paid for them.
